Inside/Outside: Designing the Passive Enclosure in Big Buildings

Multifamily Passive House projects come with unique challenges that can trip up even experienced teams. In this presentation, John Loercher dives into some of the most persistent problem areas, including stack effect, trash chutes, laundry rooms, mixed-used developments and podium construction. This presentation is the culmination of a series of interviews with experienced passive house professionals. Through a mix of technical guidance, best practices, and real-world case studies, John breaks down why these tradeoff decisions are particularly tricky and how they can be successfully managed.

John Loercher is an experienced building science consultant and educator, and is the Owner of Northeast Projects, a leading passive house consultancy in New York’s Hudson Valley.
